His mercies are new every morning...

The song in my head and heart today:
All that is within me cries for You alone be glorified.  Emmanuel, God with us.
My heart sings a brand new song.  The debt is paid, these chains are gone.  Emmanuel, God with us.

Thank you, Lord, for a good night's sleep and a brand new day.  Thank you that Sarah is home.  Thank you that David and Sydneyann are safely on their way to Africa.  

Yesterday we met with the medical oncologist.  I liked him.  He was very positive and encouraging.  His whole staff was very supportive.  His plan is to start me on chemotherapy beginning Monday to go along with the radiation.  The two enhance each other in my case when used simultaneously.  It will be a moderate dose of oral chemotherapy and the doctor expects minimal side effects.  That's good news!  No hair loss, mild nausea, fatigue.  The biggest problem that they see me having is diarrhea as a result of the radiation (written in small letters so as not to say it out loud!).  I have been told that within a couple of weeks I will want to stay close to a bathroom at all times!  This will last 5-6 weeks.  He also said that with this dose of chemo that my immune system will not be compromised like it is with higher doses - more good news!  I can still see and hug everyone at COF!  

There is the possibility of adding an IV chemotherapy medication depending on the results of some genetic testing on the biopsy that was taken earlier this week.  If that happens it will be a once a week procedure in his office.  

So, radiation and chemotherapy will be daily, Monday through Friday, beginning Monday or Tuesday for 28 days.  I will get good use of my parking pass as I make daily trips to the radiation center!

    praying for you(for peace, for strength, for as little upset tummies as possible!) as you begin this phase. So glad to hear the side affects will be minimal. peace be with you!

    I continue to pray for you and your family. You remind me of Job. Satan spoke to God claiming that if God were to strike Job's flesh and bones that Job would surely curse God to his face. Instead, Job replied with "Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" Job 2:10. The way you continue to praise our Savior during this struggle reminds me that God deserves our constant praise and trust both during good and during times of trouble.

Laura and Mark....The first thing I did when I got out of bed Monday before ANYTHING...was to check your blog and see if you had posted anything about the full body scan and there it was...WONDERFUL NEWS!!! And now more good news! Still praying and thinking of you daily. I liked the previous comment about Job...you really do remind me of Job. Praying for the next twenty-eight days to be as easy as possible for you and for this all to over soon. Praying for God's peace and strength for you and your family..with all my love!

  8. My heart and prayer go out to you and the family, I have experience the big "C" in both of my parents, my grand mother and my uncle. The best news I can say of that is that my Grandma had Colon Cancer and has been free of it for over 10 years. They treated it wiht the same approach and then just took it out. It worked great over ten years ago so Im sure they have mastered it even moreso now. I think it is amazing that you have created this and are being so open with it all. I think this will teach people how to handle this disease when it comes to comunication towards thier kids and family.
