1 Down, 27 To Go!

Day 1 of Treament!  I woke up nervous, still coming to grips with the reality of what is going on in my life.  But as soon as we started treatment it felt really good to actually be doing something about "Bob" the tumor.  Yes, he has a name.  We considered other names, some of them not so pretty, but in the end just decided to go with something simple.  To all you Bobs out there, sorry, this is no reflection on you!

I took three pills this morning after breakfast, had a radiation treatment at 2:00 and took three more pills after dinner.  This will be the plan through July 16th.  I did wear my "chemo sweat band" for style purposes (according to Ashley) and my "I am going to beat cancer" socks to radiation!

Please pray specifically that the medication and radiation will do exactly what they are supposed to do. Pray for protection of normal healthy cells and destruction of cancer cells. Pray for minimal side effects - you know what I'm talking about!

As you pray today, please pray for my mom.  She fell leaving Ashley's graduation and broke her arm up close to her shoulder.  Pray for healing and pain relief.  When it rains it pours...

Thank you!

  6. Phil 4:8- "What ever things that are true, what ever things that are noble, whatever things that are just, pure, lovely, if it is of good report, or praise worthy, meditate on these things."

So happy to see you both smiling and enjoying each other. Keep it up! I love you both.

  7. I came upon your blog because your brother had commented on Pete Wilson's blog. I will be praying for you for healing. I journaled some of the verses God has been giving you, so thank you for being a blessing in the midst of walking this journey of cancer. It is amazing how God uses us as a body, yet we may not even know each other personally.

Two verses I am praying for you today are Malachi 3:3 that you would feel God sitting right beside you as your Refiner and Malachi 4:2 "But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings. And you will go out and leap like calves released from the stall." Praying for you that you would feel God's healing warmth!

  12. Laura,

You don't know me, but I found your blog through a comment your brother made on a blog recently.

First, I'm so very sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I wish there was an explanation for so many similar stories. It's simply baffling.

My sister was diagnosed with a brain tumor/cancer about five years ago and my dad was diagnosed with colon cancer about a year ago. Dad had surgery and is doing great...sister has had three surgeries and is still fighting. All this to say, having been a family member who has struggled to not only ask why, but why not me?, I empathize with you and your family. Frankly, it sucks.

I pray God's peace, understanding, patience, wisdom and complete healing over you.

  13. Hello Laura! You don't know me, but we are related through my mother, Libby Crookham. I just wanted to tell you that my family is praying for you here in Panama. I have a verse I wanted to share with you, it's the first part of Malachi 3:17; "And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels." You are a precious jewel to Jesus, and He is always with you.

Thank you for your smiles in the midst of all this chaos! I just pray that one day you will know how many people you have touched with your trust and love of our awesome Father!
So has the production of a "What about Bob?" t-shirt begun, yet? :)
Sending up lots of thoughts and prayers for you and your family! And in the words of Teri L. "you guys are the bestest!"

  16. Lovely Laura,

I think Bob is the perfect name...that will be easy to say goodbye to. You continue to amaze me and I so admire your courage. Thank you for allowing all of us to be a part of these next 27 days. We will pray specifically and consistently. "Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in Him, for he shields him all day long and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders." Deuteronomy 33:12
