Room Temperature

I like hot things - hot showers, hot jacuzzis, hot, spicy food. And I like cold things - ice water, Bluebell ice cream, air-conditioning in Houston.

Unfortunately for me, hot and cold food and drinks can cause stomach and intestinal cramping, something of which I don't need any more. My stomach and intestines are cramping just fine with radiation and chemotherapy. No assistance needed.  So, the doctors have told me to only have room temperature things to drink.

I have to drink tons of water to help my liver and kidneys process the strong chemicals that I am ingesting and the damaged tissues that the radiation is causing.  I must be drinking gallons of water a day. Room temperature water. I can't tell you how sick I am of room temperature water. I drink it, but by the end of the day, I feel like spitting it out of my mouth.  It has become repulsive to me.

The other night as I downed another glass of room temperature water before going to bed, it all became very clear to me what God was saying in Revelation 4:14-19:

"Write to Laodicea, to the Angel of the church. God's Yes, the Faithful and Accurate Witness, the First of God's creation, says: 'I know you inside and out, and find little to my liking. You're not cold, you're not hot—far better to be either cold or hot! You're stale. You're stagnant. You make me want to vomit. You brag, 'I'm rich, I've got it made, I need nothing from anyone,' oblivious that in fact you're a pitiful, blind beggar, threadbare and homeless. Here's what I want you to do: Buy your gold from me, gold that's been through the refiner's fire. Then you'll be rich. Buy your clothes from me, clothes designed in Heaven. You've gone around half-naked long enough. And buy medicine for your eyes from me so you can see, really see.The people I love, I call to account—prod and correct and guide so that they'll live at their best. Up on your feet, then! About face! Run after God!'"

Just like I'm sick of room temperature water, God is sick of room temperature believers. Choose how you're going to live your life. Either follow after God with everything you are, or walk away. Anything else makes Him sick.

Lord, please help me to run after you every day. Please call me to account. Prod and correct me. Guide me. I am yours.

  2. That verse in Revelations is always at the back of my mind. I don't want to be a lukewarm Christian. Sometimes I haven't been sure what that looks like but, I'm always seeking.

May your day be filled with fascinating knowledge of God's extreme and radical love for you.

    Big hug - Libby

  3. What an insightful post. I was so moved my Sunday's service, Donald's song for you, and God's timing in Mark's sermon. I was wondering if you have a meal calendar that I could sign up on.
