Real...scared

I'm scared. There. I said it. I'm scared of IV chemotherapy. The idea of pumping massive amounts of chemicals into my body really freaks me out. I am one of those people who is never sick. I rarely even take a Tylenol. So knowing that on Wednesday I will have six different powerful drugs flowing into my bloodstream does not feel good to me.

I am also scared of all the unknowns... Will I experience side effects? Will I get sick? Will my liver and kidneys be able to process all these drugs? Will my blood cell production be able to keep up? Will I be really tired (I'm so tired of being tired!)? What will it feel like?

All these thoughts swirl around my head. And then I remember a Bible verse I memorized years ago.

"We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5

That's it! I need to take every thought captive to Christ, make every thought obedient to Christ!
Instead of just letting these thoughts swirl around my head causing anxiety, I need to grab hold of each one, look at it, and compare it to the truth of Christ. And if the thought doesn't measure up to God's truth, then I need to throw it out.

Will I experience side effects?
"In the world you will have trouble; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Will I get sick?
"I will bring health and healing..." Jeremiah 33:6

Will my liver and kidneys be able to process all those drugs?
"Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens." Psalm 68:19-20

Will my blood cell production be able to keep up?
"You give me a shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me..." Psalm 18:35

Will I be really tired?
"The God of Israel gives power and strength to his people." Psalm 68:35

What will it feel like?
"My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest." Exodus 33:14

Please help me to continue to fix my eyes on You, Lord, and to take my every thought captive to You!

  1. Laura,
I am going to tell my Bible study class to especially pray 2 Cor 10:4-5over you this week. I always need prayer warriors, as do all of us, but you, dear friend, will need an extra measure of them during this time. You are loved,
    Joyce

  2. I thought today, I wish I had the right words to say, or kidnap you, or take your place-but I can't... I can only imagine how I would feel...
I found something in my old sermon notes while packing today...something you taught while back --"Courage"-is an action. "We choose to believe God's word and trust him, even when we don't understand fully" "Take courage from Me, I am with you" "I am bigger than any problem you will ever face" "I am capable of handling anything that comes against you". "You don't have to do this alone"
You are my hero..and have taught me courage...Thank you! Love you!

  3. ...."Then King Nebuchadnezzar leaped to his feet in amazement and asked his advisers, “Weren’t there three men that we tied up and threw into the fire?”

    They replied, “Certainly, O king.”

He said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire, unbound and unharmed, and the fourth looks like a son of the gods.”

Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!”

So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them......

    Daniel 3

May God protect you from the fire and as you walk through the blazing furnace, may the angel that encamps about you give you GREAT peace.

  7. Many days when I'm driving to work, I come along side an 18 wheeler with Isiah 40:31 and it' s gets me ready for work and I think it will help you when you wonder about being tired.
but those who hope in the LORD
    will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Just remember, if you get really tired, put your arms up and God will carry you just like we carried our babies when then needed it.

    God Bless you Laura!

  10. Hi, Laura, I was trying to think of just the right verse to say,but it looks like you have already done that by remembering God's Word! (When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your consolations delight my soul. Ps.94:19)
I know I would be scared too! It probably doesn't help that you are a nurse!!!Just know that we all are praying faithfully for you and we will continue. It's an honor. You are strong and courageous and He goes before you!
    Love,
    Ellen

You are a hero of the faith to me (like you called Roosevelt). I get scared for Debbie, too and scared for my children. You and Debbie are wonderful.
