Day One Post-Op

Three cheers for my excellent substitute blogger!! Thank you, Sarah, you are awesome!

Wednesday, Day One Post-Op:

Well, like Sarah said, there is not a whole lot to report. I slept a lot and ate ice most of the day Wednesday! I sat up in a chair twice, and I actually took a walk down the hallway last night. I was pretty proud of myself! They brought me a dinner tray around 7:00 last night and guess what I had??? Yes, jello, again!

I have all kinds of tubes exiting my body! I have four incisions on my belly, plus the ileostomy. The doctor was able to do the surgery with a laparoscope like we were hoping, so the recovery should be easier. He was very pleased with the surgery. He looked at all my nearby organs and they all looked clean and cancer-free. We won't have any of the pathology reports back until sometime next week.

I don't have much pain and I haven't been sick to my stomach! I am sore, of course, and I have a morphine pump so I am able to medicate myself as needed for pain.

So far, so good! Thank you so much for all your prayers! Mark and I can't even express to you what it means to us! We love you all!

Ellen, thanks for the song this morning!

  1. YAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so thrilled, grinning ear to ear! I am assuming that once the pathology report comes back clear, that you continue to recover, have Betty removed and then go about life as normal and go in for check ups? Bob has been destroyed, everything else looks good.... right... ?

  2. Woohoo!!! Thanks for sharing suh great news! Have a speedy recovery. :-)

  3. Laura,

Tell Sarah we all very grateful for her updates!!! She did do a great job, but I think Mark is going to have to give up the story about sneaking a patient out for "real" food!! LOL, inquiring minds want to know!!!

Also, Teri and her FB have been helpful with updates as well, thanks Teri!!

I did the HAPPY DANCE for you!!! God is soooo awesome!!! Can't wait for the test results and then we can have a HUGH praise and worship for you being cancer free!! Hope you get to have "real" food, maybe broth soon!! ;-)

    Still praying!!
    Paula P.

  4. Praise the Lord for such a good report! Sarah did a great job keeping us updated! I am so thankful for no BIG incisions. You are being a great patient, the type will be drawn to. They will see Jesus in you.

    Keep the updates coming!
    Praying daily for you,
    Rebecca Patterson

  5. Girl, you are amazing!!!! Here you are day one post op after major cancer surgery and you are up walking around and blogging. God is soooooo right next to you! We'll keep praying and you keep healing. I can tell from her writing that Sarah is as sweet and funny as her Mamma.

  6. Thinking about you and praying for you today! Love you!

  7. That is awesome news!! Praying for a quick recovery!! Your attitude has been so awesome through this whole thing too. You are really showing us what living by faith is all about! Thanks for that!

  8. Thanks for the great report, Laura. God is good and He is faithful! We haven't have much contact in the past, but you probably remember my wife, Nell. Most of my contact has been with Damon and Mark. Please know that we have been praying for you for many weeks, and will keep praying each day.
